NATURAL HAIR GROWTH METHODS VS CLINICAL PROCEDURE

Hair growth is a topic that is quite tricky and sensitive. Many research works are being conducted to promote hair growth over decades. The most common cause for hair fall is genetic. The other causes are diet, stress, illness, or medication.

For hair loss related to illness, like a scalp infection, medications are given to treat it. There is no need to opt for any hair growth methods. Also, for women, childbirth causes temporary hair loss and it usually gets rectified in a course of time with proper nutritious diet.

Hair Growth Methods

The treatment method for the hair loss depends upon the underlying cause of the hair loss and how much hair has been lost.

Treatments such as application of Minoxidil and Laser therapy are available without prescription. But their effectiveness is still under debate.

Natural Hair Growth Methods

Diet Based Remedies

High Protein Diet: Hair consists of keratin, a protein that boosts hair growth. When the intake of protein is increased in the diet, it speeds up hair growth.

Prenatal Vitamins: Prenatal Vitamins have biotin, folic acid and iron that are linked to stronger hair and faster growth. Supplements having these elements are taken as part of the diet for accelerating hair growth

Remedies to Prevent Damage

Reducing hair washing, lowering the stress levels, proper sleep, avoiding unnecessary chemical exposure helps in arresting the damage caused to the hair.

Herbal Remedies

Oil treatments, egg treatments, using certain herbs like rosemary, aloe vera and onion juice application on scalp are some of the herbal remedies for hair loss.

Clinical Procedures

Clinical procedures are usually recommended when there is a permanent hair loss.

Hair Transplantation: The scalp that has good hair growth is removed and transplanted to the area that requires hair. There are various methods like micro grafting, slit grafting and punch grafting.

Scalp Reduction: Scalp that does not have hair growth is surgically removed and the hair bearing scalp is stretched to fill the removed area.

Success Rate in Hair Growth Procedures

Natural hair growth methods are effective for people who are low in nutrition, and for hairfall due to chemical exposure. Natural hair growth methods are usually effective for people where hair fall is temporary and hair growth can be reversed.

But, there are only three proven methods for treating hair loss – Hair Transplantation/Scalp Reduction, minoxidil and finasteride. But the only permanent solution for hair loss is the surgical hair transplantation.

Hair transplants are more effective and successful because the implanted follicles are not susceptible to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Thus, the hair growing from the implanted follicles are permanent.

But no one treatment is suitable for everyone. The success rate and effectiveness depends highly upon the individual.

A Hair transplant surgery will be recommended or effective only for people with

  1. Male-pattern baldness
  2. Female pattern baldness (genetic)
  3. People who have lost some hair due to injury/burns

The success of a hair transplant is based on two things – the availability of the number of hair follicles and skill/experience of the surgeon who performs the surgery.

Visual Hair Growth

Whatever the treatments that is opted for, patience is the key in hair growth.

For treatments like Natural methods, Laser or Minoxidil application, it takes about 3 to 6 months to start seeing visual hair growth.

In Case of Hair transplant, it takes about an year to see the difference in appearance. But for a full result, it takes up to 18 months and varies from person to person.

The Best Option

For people experiencing permanent hair loss due to genetic reasons and have gone beyond the stage that hair re-growth is not reversible, clinical procedures for hair growth is the best option. It gives you real and permanent hair. With recent innovations, the procedure is less painful and has minimum scarring with little side effects.
